There are just a few basic points about social networking.

One, have a purpose. Mine is to connect with musicians and fans of the kind of music that I like and create. That's fiddle driven folk and acoustic music, and original songs by folkies like me.

Two, upload a picture of yourself. Be proactive about this. It's for your own benefit. You need to have a picture of yourself that is somewhere in the vicinity of your self image.

If it's a tech issue, find a techie. Ask the person who knows more about computers than you do who she goes to for help. Network your way to success.

Third, find a way to reveal what interests you.

That's a good start.
